Mark Millar was one of the international guest speakers at the Hi-Tech and Supply Chain Summit in Amsterdam in May, where he delivered the opening keynote presentation on the second day of the conference at the Novotel Amsterdam Schipol Airport.
Organised by leading producer eft, the 10th annual Hi-Tech & Electronics Supply Chain Summit adopted the theme ‘Implementing the 3-D Value Chain: Respond to Customer Demand, Unleash the Power of Your Data; Devise Your Digital Execution Strategy’ and featured active engagement from 100+ industry executives from all over Europe, including representatives from Jabil, Philips, IBM, Liberty Global, Kyocera, Bose, Syncreon, HP, Epson, Zebra Technologies, Nypro Healthcare and Flextronics.
Mark’s presentation, entitled ‘Empowering Supply Chain Ecosystems – a Future Outlook for Hi-Tech Supply Chains’, examined the ways in which supply chains have become increasingly global, complex and strategic – evolving into global supply chain ecosystems.
Drawing upon recent research, Mark summarised the implications for the high-tech electronics sector, from both the brand owner and service provider perspectives.
Mark then went on to explore three waves of Digital Disruption and look at how technology itself is having a dramatic impact on high-tech supply chains, as developments such as robotics, dark warehouses and 3D printing start to enforce transformational change on the high-tech sector.
As a result, said Mark, organisations must put in place supply chain strategies as they seek revenue growth and competitive advantage in an increasingly complex, connected world.
Mark’s presentation was described as being “refreshing and inspiring”.

Interview with Mark to discuss keynote presentation
Kim Sauer from The Scoop TV participated in the conference and interviewed Mark about his presentation. During the interview, Mark explained how his talk would build on several of the key themes explored in his recent book, Global Supply Chain Ecosystems, to address some of the supply chain developments most likely to impact the hi-tech sector, such as technology and digital disruption.
